Note: Any research project requiring experiments that deal with human and animal subjects/samples or tissues, hazardous/bio-hazardous material or processes, as well as surveys/questionnaires has to get approval from the UAEU Research Ethics Committees first as outlined in the Research Policies and Procedures.
Inquiries should be directed to the research.office@uaeu.ac.ae
The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is committed to the maintenance of the highest ethical standards in all research conducted here at the UAEU, as stated clearly in its Research Policies and Procedures (please see the sections of the Research Policies and Procedures related to Ethics here: http://www.uaeu.ac.ae/en/about/policies/ ). The UAEU takes the greatest care in ensuring that the ethics and integrity of research is upheld, as the individual researcher has a responsibility not only to him/herself but also to society. Towards this, the UAEU has established a Research Ethics Review Board (RERB) that will oversee its four Research Ethics Committees listed below:
This committee will review and process approval of research projects that involve human samples/tissues submitted by the faculty researchers at related colleges and affiliated and contracted Hospitals.
This committee will review and process approval of research projects that use faculty, staff, or students as research subjects (i.e. surveys or questionnaires) submitted by the faculty researchers at related colleges.
This committee will review and process approval of research projects involving the use of hazardous and bio-hazardous materials or processes submitted by the faculty researchers at related colleges.
This committee will review and process approval of research projects involving animals by the faculty researchers at related colleges.
Members of the academic community have the responsibility to act in accordance with the UAE law, in addition to cultural norms as well as the UAEU codes of practice, policies, and standards of professionalism. All researchers who plan to perform research at UAEU must obtain the appropriate ethical approvals in advance. Principal Investigators are responsible for submitting their research projects to the relevant committee and, if appropriate, seek approvals from more than one of the above Research Ethics Committees. The Chair of each committee can transfer a submitted research project to another committee, if deemed necessary.
All information and forms for applying to any of the UAEU Research Ethics Committees are available on the Research Office website
